Marshmallow Leaf, Althaea officinalis ~ Mild, sweet, moistening, cooling. Marshmallow may be considered the queen of demulcents, having an immediately observable mucilaginous quality and being generally safe and gentle. All parts of the plant are demulcent, though the leaf may blend a bit better into teas, being just slightly less mucilaginous, and having a light astringency. Traditional use to soothe the skin, mouth, throat, stomach, GI tract.
